Year in review - more choice and better value for disabled motorists - what a year for Motability!

Motability has enjoyed a year packed with more choice and better value for disabled motorists topped with an ever-growing selection of low emission cars. Over 530,000 disabled people now enjoy worry-free motoring.

Mike Betts, chief executive, Motability Operations explained:

“Great choices, great prices and great service are the essential features of Motability. As household budgets became ever more pressured during 2009, it was important to offer a wide range of affordable motoring options. Customers both old and new enjoyed favourite names remaining at stable and low prices.”

Highlights of 2009 included:

• Affordability
Motability continued to offer great value options and “greener” models at the best possible prices throughout the year, with several popular models seeing price reductions despite an unstable market backdrop. Look out for even more great value continuing into 2010 with one of the best ever ranges of affordable, popular cars available through Motability.

• Keeping it green
The number of models offered through Motability with CO2 emissions levels lower than 120g/km, increased to over 400 for 2009 – a boost of almost 75 percent since the start of the year. Great news for motorists on a budget as “greener” cars also enjoy better fuel efficiency and achieve higher mileage per gallon (mpg), which means savings when filling up the tank.

• One Big Day – Community events for those looking for a new car
For the third consecutive year Motability hosted its One Big Day events throughout the UK. The four different open days took place at Old Trafford Football Stadium (Manchester), Yorkshire Air Museum (Yorkshire), Chatham Historic Dockyard (Kent) and Chepstow Racecourse (South Wales) and offered a fun day out, while finding out more about getting on the road with Motability. Nearly 5,000 people attended the events to gather information and advice on Motability, meet local dealers and test drive some of the new cars available.

• Increased knowledge
Over 17,000 car dealers in Motability Dealer Partner businesses in almost every town in the UK took part in specialist training on Motability. This means improved knowledge and service for customers for an easier route to worry-free motoring.

• New online advice on Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles
For the first time visitors to the website can find out everything they need to know about leasing Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) through dedicated reference pages packed with useful advice and information. The pages explain and clarify the options for those requiring a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, including drive-from wheelchair makes and models.

Anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement can simply transfer their mobility allowance (currently around £50 a week) to Motability. The worry-free motoring package includes insurance, servicing and maintenance and full RAC breakdown assistance. There’s also a motoring allowance of 60,000 miles over three years as well as tyre and windscreen replacement.

Motability provides affordable, worry-free motoring to disabled people and their families and offers over 4,000 makes and models to choose from, with Motability Specialists in nearly 5,000 dealerships across the UK.
